 BULLETIN FOR MEETING OF 2/11/10

TERRY JON HUNTSMAN, an elite member of the dais, sitting with his better half, MARSHA, said brevity is the spice of life. So I will be concise, succinct, to the point. In other words, I will use concision in writing this Bulletin.

Husbands are awkward things to deal with; even keeping them in hot water will not make them tender. Mary Buckley

SARGEANT at ARMS: DEBORAH McHENRY

INVOCATION: DOYLE DANIEL

God help the man who won’t marry until he finds a perfect woman, and God help him still more if he finds her. Ben Tillett

PLEDGE of ALLEGIENCE: STEVE BEZZERIDES

Marriage is one long conversation, chequered by disputes. Robert L. Stevenson

VISITING ROTARIANS and GUESTS: CHRIS WONG

There were many, oodles, gobs of, a-whole-lot of members with their better halves sitting around the room. Each stood and best guessed the length of their marital agreements. Awesome! A total of 597 years of bliss with many at the 55 years and above bracket. All clap! Three pairs, D and D, S and L and P and R, are couples in waiting.

What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined for life—to strengthen each other in all labor, to rest on each other in all sorrow, to minister to each other in all pain, to be one with each other in silent, unspeakable memories at the moment of the last parting. George Eliot

THE ULTIMATE BUCKET LIST MAN:

The TER. Introduced Richard Forster, a sojourner par excellence, who proceeded to inflict wishful thinking on this Reporter. Mr. Forster has been traveling for the better part of his life. In fact, it is his life. His Grandmother impregnated his mind with the seeds or wonder of far off places and things. His belief is that we all ‘should set bucket lists of places we most want to visit and do so.’ We all have reasons not to travel, money, time, money, money. To him the memories are better than unfulfilled dreams. That is a weird looking word. I agree. I watch the Travel channel, NGC, History channel, etc and sip a scotch and water and let the insects chew on the photographer, or the humidity run down the back of the naturalist and add to my bucket list. Peru, Egypt, Greek Isles, British Isles, Russia, Israel, Turkey ad infinitum. The Mayan temples would be a hoot to see. I hate snakes. Two weeks in Italy was a blessing for me, but just a start. Two weeks in Rome would be a dream. There is just too much to take-in in most environments. How do you set the pace for your adventures? That is where Mr. Forster comes in. After you do your studies, research, you tell him your desires and he sets the tempo and modulation of you sojourn, to help it come as close to your wishes as possible. To be brief TERRY. It is a good idea to use a travel agent who has been to places you want to visit to set a realistic avenue of travel. Just ask BERNADETTE.

Good Night and God Bless

JUST IN CASE YOU WANT MORE GOOD READS OR ARE ‘NOT THE TERRY’;

This really is a great story I received as an e-mail from a friend!

Anyone who has pets will really like this. You’ll like it even if you don’t and you may even decide you need one!
Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named Lucky. Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky’s toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky’s other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box..
Â
It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease…..in fact; she was just sure it was fatal.
Â
She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders.. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her…what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary’s dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won’t understand that I didn’t want to leave him! The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.
Â
The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.
Â
Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn’t even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap..Â
Â
Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn’t come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn’t understand what was wrong.  She couldn’t move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life.
He had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It’s been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky, he still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure..

Remember……live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget….the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards.  They are the ones that care for us.
