Hagop Bedoyan’s Rotary Craft Talk 5/25/17
I have been a bankruptcy attorney for 30 years and have been a partner with Klein DeNatale Goldner (“KDG”) since 2009. KDG is a Bakersfield based, full-service business law firm with three offices and approx. 35 attorneys. I am the partner in charge of the Fresno office.
In 1995, the CA Board of Legal Specialization certified me as a “Specialist” in bankruptcy law. I was the first attorney in Fresno County to achieve that designation. Certified Specialists are required to take an additional all-day exam, have 36 hours of continuing education every 3 years, work on 100 or more bankruptcy cases during that time and be reviewed by their peers both for original certification and recertification every 5 years. Only those of who have the legal specialization designation from the CA State Bar can hold themselves out as such. There are 11 legal specialties in CA.
I field all types of bankruptcy matters such as:
- Chapter 7
- Chapter 11 Cases.
- Creditor’s Committees.
My largest chapter 11 case was the reorganization of Allegiant Airlines in the early 2000s. I was also the lead Creditor’s Committee Counsel for the bankruptcy of County Bank’s holding company. My most recent large reorganization case was Club One Casino, which successfully came out of bankruptcy earlier this year. I have handled all types of business and agricultural bankruptcies and work-outs, including regional homebuilders, contractors, packing houses, dairies and farmers. I love learning about different businesses. Despite the big cases, I get the most personal satisfaction from helping individuals and small businesses navigate their way out of financial distress.
A unique fact about me: I didn’t speak a word of English when I started Winchell Elementary School. I finished Roosevelt High School a year early and left for Westwood and UCLA at age 17 thinking I wanted to be a doctor: I was the first in my family to go to college. Unfortunately, Greek Life and joining Delta Sigma Phi fraternity didn’t help those aspirations. I switched to Political Science and after graduating, I went to UOP’s McGeorge School of Law School in Sacramento and finally returned to Fresno to work for Salisch & Salisch.
I have two grown daughters, Tamar and Sareen. Both are married and into successful careers. Tamar is a TSA with Fresno Unified School District working with their autistic students and special ed. teachers. Sareen is a Public Relations Specialist with Valley Children’s Hospital.
In my spare time, I’m either at the gym or running outdoors. Jennifer and I just bought a home together in the Fig Garden area, which we share with our 2 year old rescue Bichon/Poodle mix, “Annie.” I love walking to work and going home to have lunch with Annie and Jennifer.

NORTH FRESNO ROTARY
I joined NFR in December of 2007. At the time I was the late Tom Caswell’s law partner. I have served as Endowment Fund Secretary since 2008 and have been active with the Pancake Breakfast Run and Sponsorships for the past several years. Like many of you, some of my closest friendships are with members of our club.
